Best shoes to wear?

I tried to search on here to find a good shoe to wear but didn't find what i'm looking for. I have always worn Nike training shoes when I trained for my sports in the past, but I want to find a good shoe with is a little more wide. What would be some good possibilities at a good price?

Be prepared, this is a very very well covered topic and you might get a few slam comments.

That beings aid, the general view for crossfiters is a minimalist shoe.

Innov8 has several, Reebok just came out with a Crossfit shoe and many swear by the old school Converse Chucks.

I personally just bought the New Balance MX20 and love it:

I have a very narrow foot so this works well for me, the Innov8 was too wide in the toe bed for me so perhaps that would be a better option for you. Someone with a wider foot might be more helpful.

I second the minimalist shoes suggestion. I also suggest learning what you can here and on the internet, and then go out and try some on. Do a few burpees, jump on the bench most shoe stores have, and just see how they feel.

Also, learn more about minimalist shoes in general and why people suggest using them. I would also learn more about how to transition into using minimalist shoes.

If you want to try the minimalist shoe idea without a big investment, consider a $10 pair of "water shoes" at Dick's or Walmart or wherever. They aren't perfect, but give you an idea what you're in for.

I have a pair of stem shoes which are good for wide feet. I really love them, it's kind of like a second skin on my sole, only that sole is caveman tough.

Re: Best shoes to wear?

I love the trail gloves for metcons but not for lifting. I do chucks for lifts and the trail gloves are sufficient for metcons without heavy slow lifts like in CFFB.

Best all-around CrossFit Shoe: Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81 (Asics... see my previous post here... WFS)
My experience and recommendation... in order:
- Keep some "running" shoes for awhile while you slowly ease into better running form (like "Pose").
- Use the Ultimate 81s for every WOD, and runs up to 800m.
- As your strength improves and performance gets limited by the compressibility of the squishy soles, get some weightlifting (Olympic Weightlifting) shoes.

Inov-8s were too narrow for me (my foot isn't that wide); nice thing about NB is that they have reg. and wide versions of all their minimalist shoes ... better try 'em on though because I require a wide in the MX20s and trails but not in the roads ...

And there are a ton of threads on this.

Nevertheless, this is one of my favorite topics, so ...
You have to experiment. I went from a non-minimal, basic NB running shoe to a pair of my old skate shoes to Vibrams back to my skate shoes to Inov-8 220s to NB trails. Now, I use Nike Oly shoes for Oly lifting, NB trails for powerlifting, met-cons, and short runs and NB roads for longer runs. And I still bust out my skate shoes once in a while if I'm going for a ME squat.

Go around to local suppliers to try on the different options before you buy 'em ... if you have an NB store nearby, they have tread mills in store ...
