Ok, a Midwestern guy just has to ask: Why in most WOD pictures are the Santa Cruz guys and gals wearing surfing (board) shorts? Are they comfortable? I bet they surf after working out...sucks to be in Chicago!

At least Chicago has a "beach" and a large, relatively clean body of water.

My favorite part about summer here in Cincinnati is watching people jet-ski in the Ohio River. Fecal coliform anyone???

I live right on the hudson river, 20 miles upstream from NYC.

my friends and I have swum in the hudson more times than i can remember, and every time we get strange looks and questions as to why we would swim in such a "dirty" river. a popular remark is "did you find any bodies?"

i've also never seen anyone else swimming in the river, ever.

I took Scuba lessons from a guy who inspected stuff in the Hudson around NYC for the Coast Guard. He had some interesting stories about inspecting in Zero Visibility. Dry suit required.

Board shorts= ample room for the manliness. No pinching, which could really ruin your concentration at the bottom of a squat. Or as Greg E put it "take the starch out of your britches":yikes: Yes, I am in MN now but I lived in So Cal for about 10 years.

Just make sure you don't get any frontal video shots of the said board short wearer.

I was actually going to ask this very question a couple days ago.

I just don't get what's so great about board shorts. Athletic shorts have more stretch to them and seem like they'd be more durable.
