Re: A nice Muay Thai Metcon

I don't know the first thing about Muay Thai but I know those kicks would break my bones.

Way to be innovative with the GHD's. =]

I've been wanting to get into a martial art of some sort...sometime.
Time's a bit of an issue at the moment.

Anyway, nice work, looked fun.

Thanks Andrew. I trained in MT for a long time and then when a few of us decided to open up a box everything got put on hold until now. If you ever find the time i'm sure you'll have heaps of fun. I've recently started BJJ and i'm like a kid at Christmas.

How about...

4 Rounds for time:
20 Power Cleans, (135# maybe, depends on athlete)
20 Pull-ups
10 punch/kick combos (pick one you like, jab-cross-thaikick, or jab-cross-hook-cross-thaikick, whatever you want to work on really...)
20 Power-overs (seen in this wfs video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6JvhCTjicY at the time 1:32)

Watch out with those power overs, they make you (or at least me) sorer than .

Of course, the 10 punch combos could be replaced with 10 take-downs with a partner, ten sprawls with a partner trying to take you down (if he gets it, the rep doesn't count!), ten hip throws, ten upas (mount escape), anything like that, getting creative.

Thanks Troy,

I'll make sure that this gets done but I'll break the workout into intervals.

The power overs look decent... I wonder what it would be like popping up to full extension ? We'll soon see.

Re: A nice Muay Thai Metcon

I have found the power-overs to be a lot harder when not reaching full extension, especially on the chesticles. The distance you travel is shortened some, so who knows which one actually generates more power output, but if I had to guess, it'd be the shorter quicker ones.

I'm just thinking about the carry-over to the fight, I think it would be good for MMA as it'd kind of replicate holding someone down. Kind of. For MT though we want rom for punches.

I will try both and see what happens, it might be that both get used in one way or another. Our gym is a Strength, conditioning and martial arts/boxing facility, although this thread is MT metcon it might be that some of the ideas get used for Boxing, BJJ or MMA instead of just Muay Thai.

Thanks again for the ideas Troy, any more??
