Getting into gymnastics/parkour/flipping?

Hello, I know this is random, and I'm not sure if this is the right place, if it isn't I will move it.

But does anyone know of some good resources to get started on the adventure to gymnastics for things like flipping and parkour like activites?

I can't seem to find anything good.

But there's also a few tutorial based sites like, or, but those and many others you knew about already cause you googled it, right?

To learn tumbling safely I would find a coach in person...I messed up my back learning back tucks psuedo-on my own. I was in a gymnastics gym for adults but it was an open gym format.

If you just want to learn strength and statics then all of the above links are good.

Can you already do a cartwheel, round-off, front/back handspring, front/back tuck?

American Parkour is good.

Drillsandskills is also good.

For strength training, as stated check out this link

Besides EMI, there is, (wfs) That forum is virtually dead nowadays but the forum can still be searched besides the hosted articles and progressions per event.

It was created by Roger Harrell, former SME of CrossFit who now runs CrossFitMarin/TheCave. Occasionally he still logs on here.

For any handsprings or salto (flips in the air without hands), I would prefer/recommend going to a facility and seeing about a class or private lesson. Or find someone that used to be a credible gymnast. You will be safer if you land on your head there besides having access to the equipment.

Even with sand or a pool, you're not very safe. You can hit the edge of a pool and knock yourself out when doing back dives. If you were to merely stay in the pool and use it as an assist for handsprings and saltos, it's fine.

Sand gives a little but not nearly enough. Mattresses maybe but you can't really jump off of them. Even when you land funky on a front or back salto, you can sprain ankles and twist knees very seriously besides hitting your tailbone which is common on front tucks.

Trampolines are ok but having bounced off a few accidentally, I was very lucky to not break my tailbone, neck or just get laid out. Luckily my boss caught me one time. Even the netted ones leave you at risk for breaking the arms should you land funny on them.

Find a qualified coach. Period. No exceptions. Many many people have taught themselves back flips, handsprings and the like. Many, many people have also done themselves irreparable harm in the process. It is simply not worth it.
