Great article: http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/320/
I have often noticed that olympic weightlifting tends to pull the torso backwards and gymnastics tends to pull it forwards. Nice how crossfit balances the two forces. Previously Masquerading As Ross Greenberg. |

Ron, first you brazenly steal my topic and then you have the gall to insult my integrity. Enough is enough. I challenge you to a duel.

Brilliant article.
"The old saw is wrong. Glory is temporary, pain is forever." Wow, our crew coach would always tell us to "up the pain threshold", because if we'd win the race, the pain would pass, and the glory would last. So true, the inverse. |

For the most part a very good article. He does unfortunately make some drastic claims that are exaggerations of reality. I would say that overall the actual knowledge base in the gymnastics coaching community is lower than it should be considering the demands of the sport, there are a lot of programs out there that balance things out. You can see it in competition. I know very few gymnasts with the nagging lifelong injuries he refers to. And the ones that I do know were more from a catastrophic crash rather than long term improper training.

Roger,
Correct me if I'm wrong (highly likely), but isn't there a greater number of injuries/lifelong maladies in the women's game as opposed to the men's? I read an exhaustive article done by the OC Register where they interviewed elite female gymnasts going back some 20 years and found they suffered more knee, back, and neck injuries than the men. The ratio was unbelievably high against the women IIRC. Russ/Ross, Swords at 20 paces; at dawn. BYOG (bring your own gauntlet). If I'm not there, start without me. |
