Athlete w/ Lymphedema

I have an athlete that is a cancer survivor and has developed lymphedema in her left arm as a result of the surgeries associated with her treatment. She is currently going through a 9 week treatment and was instructed not to bare any load on her arm during the treatment. The restrictions include no push-ups or anything push-up related, no loads in the hand or on the back. My issue is how do I modify her workouts to meet her needs without overworking her arm or the other areas she can use. Today we substituted the bar w/ pvc pipe, and modified the toes-2-bar w/ sit-ups. I love the opportunity/challenge of modifying and adapting wods, but I would love to get some advice from the community. She is a dedicated athlete and wants to continue at her regular schedule. Any ideas?

Re: Athlete w/ Lymphedema

Hi- I suggest you look at a research study out of the University of Pennsylvania entitled the PAL Study. You can google the study or take a look at my website- www.cancersurvivorfitness.com.

Good for you for looking for help on this one! You may the adaptations are more than either of you realize.
