I had a previous thread I wanted to update but it's "archived" and I couldn't post to it for some reason.
Anyway, wanted to send thanks for the advice I read here and to update what I found out. Symptom: Running 3 miles a day 3-4 times a week for the past couple of years. No injuries at all until December when I was playing a friendly game of football that I seriously popped my hamstring. It was a serious pull, possibly partial tear? No running for two months. When I tried getting back to running, suffered from ITBS. Rest, new shoes, opposite side of track, short stride, nothing worked for 4-5 months. Saw my doctor who sent me to a "sports medicine" specialist and he confirmed what I thought could be the case. My thighs (inner and outer) and calves were all having to compensate for the hamstring not pulling it's weight. But probably the biggest contributer was the lack of range of my hamstring. I had not noticed I was not able to stretch it as far as the left (uninjured) hamstring. So, after just two weeks of stretching to regain range on the hamstring, some mild HS resistance training, I am now able to run normally without pain. Except for the pain on my side from lack of conditioning anyway. |

Great to hear someone has gotten over ITBS! I've been dealing with it for two years with little luck.
I have a 24-hour relay mtb race this weekend, I figure i'll have to visit the sports doc when I get back for more work on it. |
