Client had Knee surgery

I have a woman who had a knee scope done 2 months ago to clean up some torn cartlidge.

She wants to get back at it but the knee is still sore. She is doing physical theropy 3x/wk and her doc said no running for 1yr (sounds way long to me).

Squating, Lunges and the like are def out as is anything with significant impact to the knee.

Any ideas of exercises that I can get her heart pumping without impacting the knee?

Exercise bike
Swimming, water aerobics, running in water
Walking (fast)

If the soreness is causing pain, swimming or other water-related exercises are probably the best option.

+1 for water aerobics/pool therapy. I work ortho in a hospital... lots and lots of total hip and knee replacements. Pool therapy is AMAZING for these people.

Rower may be an option. This is an appropriate situation for ellipticals and such. Maybe even a stairstepper. You may have to build her up to each of these.

Step-ups, partial air squats (to develop ROM), basic yoga or other mobibility work. Leg press can have a place here too while she's working on her ROM.

Also see what her PT advises on how soon she can return to running, or anything heavy on the knee. Sometimes docs are clueless when it comes to exercise/rehab, etc. Not a knock on Dr's at all.

Especially if it was just to clean out torn cartilage.

But the other suggestions are great.
