Employee Terms of Agreement?

Hi - I have brought my trainers on as employees rather than independent contractors and have been told that I should have them sign an employee agreement. Is anyone else doing this? The agreements I have seen are those that have created by lawyers and are super intimidating. What happened to the family concept?!

Re: Employee Terms of Agreement?

Oh Robyn. Family concept if for those that are too ignorant of the real world. Many, many, MANY businesses are ruined due to contracts not being signed. At the very least having what is expected of your employees is a start. Depending on your state laws, if you choose to fire an employee, you need just cause. You need to prove that they acknowledge their duties, and show they lacked in them.
These contracts do not just protect the business owner, but can make the employee feel more confident in their job security, but also give you "outs" if needed.
Don't make that mistake. We have a contract, it includes a 5 mile non-compete(most don't hold up in court, but will make your employee think twice), our expectations of him, our office policies, etc. It wasn't one sided all in favor of the affiliate. A smart trainer(business smart, not training smart) should not have a problem signing a fair contract.
