So when I clean something close to my max, I think I'm doing a good job of pulling it hard and then getting under the bar just about near the peak of its ascent. But when I pull less than my max, the bar obviously goes much higher, and I'm faced with two choices: either turn it into a power clean and then kind of drop down into a full front squat and go back up, or wait for it to come falling down...which I've tried. It hurts. I guess a third option would be to just generate less force on the pulls, but that seems counterproductive.

I guess my question is, if you're lifting less than your max, don't all cleans become power cleans? Or should I not pull as explosively and work on catching the bar in a true squat clean position? Or am I missing something entirely?

Hope that makes sense to somebody...anyway, thanks!

A great thread talking about treating a light weight like you do a heavy weight.

Cool, that thread pretty much answered it all.

Thanks, Allen!
