Re: Before and after - Brad Thompson

Brad,

I was at the same cert with you in March - in fact, we had a quick breakfast together in the hotel before day 1. Your transformation has been amazing - you've clearly been working hard since then, and you're an inspiration. I remember you having a great attitude and desire to suck up as much knowledge as possible. I love knowing it's paid off.

Impressive already, and I hope you'll share you're continued improvements.

Re: Before and after - Brad Thompson

Hey man!

I saw that you affiliated. Congrats! I am working on my letter now.

I figured most people there saw me as the guy with that deer-in-the-headlights look I was trying to suck up the pain too!!! That whole experience kicked my drive in to high gear. When Jeff T did FGB and in one minute hit 61 75# push-presses was the tipping point for me.

Feel free to send any of your middle-aged male clients (or potential ones) to my blog to show them how this works.

Re: Before and after - Brad Thompson

Yeah, I made it kinda long! I do some workouts with a client who weighs around 200 - so total weight around 400 on the bar - fear is a factor.

Brad,

This is pretty awesome, your transformation. I'd like to show my father this.

Can you answer a few (ok about 6) questions for me.

1) are you still zoning and if so how strict? Do you take cheat days?
2) what's a typical cheat day if any
3) what's a typical zone day for you? fav zone recipe?
4) were you "fit" at one point before? - "before" your before pic.
5) any supplements ie. Fish oil, vitamin 3
6) any other secrets.

Again, awesome stuff.
Noah

Re: Before and after - Brad Thompson

Thanks so much for the comp! Tell your dad to check my blog and feel free to contact me. This is my favorite part of the transformation!

1) are you still zoning and if so how strict? Do you take cheat days?

Yes I am. Pretty strict. When I cheat (rarely) I still try to stay conscious of the balance.

2) what's a typical cheat day if any

I've cheated at birthday parties and work related meals. Honestly, I feel so crappy after I cheat that the payoff isn't worth any satisfaction.

3) what's a typical zone day for you? fav zone recipe?

I eat anywhere from 19 - 23 blocks per day, based on how hungry I feel. I started with 25 and dropped a bit of weight (15 lbs) then leveled off and went down to 23 and have the occasional 19. Average about 21. I don't do paleo (yet). I eat some beans. I eat whole eggs. I eat a lot of light (2%) cheese. I eat almonds, olives, cashews, macadamia nuts, broccoli, brussel sprouts, chicken, turkey, tofu, ham...

No fav recipe.

4) were you "fit" at one point before? - "before" your before pic.

I played volleyball in college - but was NEVER as fit as I am now. In fact - I wouldn't count it.

5) any supplements ie. Fish oil, vitamin 3

Fish oil - Carlsons ( double the recommended dose ), cheap one-a-day men's, I add turmeric to my eggs and cinnimon to my oatmeal.

6) any other secrets.

Perseverance! And don't be ashamed to scale the workouts! This was a real difficulty for me. Suck it up and use PVC!!! None of the workouts were very effective until I bought in to the diet.

Thanks again for the comments!

Re: Before and after - Brad Thompson

I'm getting close to being an elite athlete at this! I just did 400m in 1:15. The Crossfit Seattle "Advanced Athlete" time for 400m is 1:19. "Elite" = 1:04. How the heck did this happen? I'm 6'4. I'm not a runner! I'm not fast!

At some point I'll have to get used to all of this progress... Does it ever not seem noteworthy anymore?
