Weird red spots around my eyes

This is bizarre. I was doing a WOD this morning called "Easy Mary"

AMRAP 20
5 HSPU
10 pullups
25 squats

I decided to do strict HSPU & pull-ups because I've been working on my HSPU strength. They were tough, especially towards the end.

Then, when I came home and looked in the mirror, I saw these weird red flecks of blood around my eye sockets, temples, and under my eyebrows (not in the eyes themselves). I took a shower, but they were still there. This was a couple hours ago and they haven't gone away. They're kinda like blood-red freckles.

Have any of you experienced this before? Is it something to worry about?

Re: Weird red spots around my eyes

Hey Nic

I get those same spots when I do HSPU. They usually go away after a couple hours but sometimes it takes a day. I think they are broken capillaries near the skin surface but I could be wrong.

It's called Petechia. It would cause me to take a second look if you were dead and showed signs of it. (coroner joke, I guess). Don't worry about it.

i had to grin when i read this.. guess i have been watching too many shows starring coroners..my first thought was petechiae and instantly thought of several dire life threatening causes ......

but reality is here:
Prolonged straining
Tiny petechiae of the face, neck and chest can be caused by prolonged straining during activities such as:

Crying..possible during HSPU
Coughing ?????
Vomiting afterwards perhaps
Childbirth unlikely
Weightlifting

Weightlifting, yes. Handstand push-ups were tear free, but there were a lot of them and they were all strict (no kip). I'm also singing (shouting) in a hardcore band, which feels like childbirth except not nearly as painful.
