high protein diet - osteoporosis?

i've been hearing and reading things about how a high protein diet is related to an increased risk of osteoporosis, something to do with the acidity that is caused.

i know inuits are often taken as proof that a high(er) protein diet prevents a lot of the diseases that plague our disease today, but how can you explain the fact that inuits have the highest incidence of osteoporosis in the world?

im not too knowledgeable about this stuff, so i'd be glad if someone could shed some light on this

great info thanks, always wondered the science behind it. In addition, all the heavy lifting involved in xfit is nothing but beneficial to our bone health/strength!

Besides the net acid/base renal load that Cordain addresses in his FAQ, there is also the confounding impact of the possible low serum Vitamin D of the Inuit due to lack of sunshine. They probably get a fair amount of dietary Vit D from their diet (liver, oily fish, etc.).
