Rehab, restart, complete bottoms up plan
Any pointers to a ground up plan....just had 2 level cervical fusion c5-7. Will be 2 more months til I can run or have any jarring motion. Doc uses adult stem cell matter in between the vertebrae, in place of the removed discs.
Right side substantial lost of tricep strength....child like strength at this point. Doc xrayed me yesterday after one month, likes the progress and has allowed me to "get going" Cross fit site might be over my head at this piont, but thought I'd ask. My thoughts are progressing walking, things like wall pushups to get some tricep strength back. Can't do pullups for another 2 months...I used to be a 20+ no kipper. 50 years old. Looking for some pdf file perhaps combining light stretching walking, light strength training. Again I may be in the wrong site. |

Are you working with a physical therapist at all?

Re: Rehab, restart, complete bottoms up plan
Yes, good point. I should have anticipated this question.
Yes...been cleared by the doc to go to a PT place that often works with his patients. I will do what they say, but I was already thinking beyond building up the atrophied area..mainly right side, right triceps. I'll do what they say, but I am just anxious to get back to something more than what I probably will get this week when I go for my first session. Like I don't see why i can start working on some unweighted squats, lunges. |

Re: Rehab, restart, complete bottoms up plan
My wife is an RN, works for a neurosurgeon. Given the stories I've heard from her, I'd definately work under a physical therapist until they give you the all clear. But yeah, if you're able to hold proper spinal position, pushups, air squats, walking sounds like a good start.
I saw a therapist for back trouble (no surgery), and they tend to err on the conservative side. Just make sure their caution is warranted, and not holding you back. |
