Re: store bought bars

Ingredients in almond/coconut KIND bars:
almonds, dried coconut, honey, non GMO glucose, puffed rice, chicory fiber, soy lecithin.

So...built on a decent foundation but not paleo, but also not as bad as some of the other "nutrition" bars out there. It's one of my new year's resolutions to stop eating them.

Re: store bought bars

Tanka bars are great -- buffalo and cranberries. Full on paleo. And made by folks who know (it is Native owned and operated).

Re: store bought bars

You can probably make some good ones from almond or cashew butter. In terms of actual protein bars - beef jerky on the side.

Not a lot -- the sugar is there to help preserve the cranberries, not as a heavy flavoring/ingredient.

The ingredients are buffalo, dried cranberries (cranberries, sugar), water, salt & less than 2% of flavoring, red pepper, sea salt, granulated garlic, granulated onion, lactic acid starter culture.

Jump to to their website for more info. Great story about how they figured out how to manufacture for sale a traditional palo food -- wasna -- with a long tradition among the Oglala Lakotas. Too bad it isn't sold packed into buffalo horns like in the old days!
