CrossFit Will County

John Edmondson 5'11", 175#, 33 yoa
I'm starting this log for a number of reasons: To give the athletes at CrossFit Will County a place to track and showcase their progress, to give anyone who cares a bit of insight into what we do here, and to keep my own training honest, which, as a husband and father of two with a full time day job and a new, rapidly growing affiliate, is getting harder and harder as of late. So here goes:

8/23/08
Clean and jerk
Warmed up with several sets of 95# and 135#
145#, 155#, 165#, 175#, 180#, 185#

Considering I've never really C&Jed really heavy before, this is a PR.
Finished up with 21-15-9 of ring dips and pullups, didn't time myself, just blasted through, though I believe it was in the 3:30 range. It was hot and really humid today, but I slept really well last night and woke up eager to train, so I hit it right after work. Off to bed, clients in the am.

Re: CrossFit Will County

8/24/08
A bit pressed for time, so I caught up on a CFWC WOD from a few weeks ago.
10x for time:
5 squat cleans 95#
5 chest slap pushups
Finished in 10:20. Found it sucked appropriately. I was hoping to break 10:00, but it'll have to wait 'til next time.
Tabata row later. Maybe.

Re: CrossFit Will County

Jason, surely you could bribe one of your buddies to give you a lift. We're just 15-20 minutes from Bolingbrook. If you're ever in the neighborhood...

8/25/08
Alternating tabatas:
Deadlift 225#: 8, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 4, 5. 45 total
L-pullups: 7, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3. 29 total
Totally underestimated the systemic hit of the heavy deads. It was all I could do just to hold 3s for the last 6 sets of L-pulls. Watched a video of Brendan Gilliam doing this WOD after I finished and was a little surprised to see that he was also smashed by the second set of pullups. Of course he crushed my DL numbers.

Re: CrossFit Will County

8/27
Tabata pullups 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 8, 7
Was shooting for 10s across, but alas, it was not to be. Next time.

8/28
Thruster 5-5-5-5-5
95#, 135, 145, 145, 145
Swamped with work, family, and clients lately, which explains the extremely brief workouts as of late. I usually try for 3x5 of one lift or tabatas before the WOD, be it from the mainsite or one of our own creations here at Will County. Hopefully things will calm down around here in the next few weeks.

A few PRs, for the heck of it:
Fran 4:38
Helen 8:16
Grace 4:45
Cindy 21 rounds
Clean & Jerk 185#
Diane 9:35
Box jump 43"
30 muscleups 6:36
Elizabeth 10:25
Mary 11 rounds
Back squat 265#
Deadlift 335#
Press 155#
Weighted pullup 100#
Weighted dip 100#
500m row 1:33
Nothing to write home about, but nothing I hang my head about either. Max strength remains a weakness, though I believe this is partially mental, particularly in the squat. I know I am stronger than my max lifts would suggest, which is pretty frustrating. Oh, and pushups, those suck too. I can complete the pullups in "Angie" almost as fast as the pushups. I dunno...

Re: CrossFit Will County

Workouts continue to be haphazard, unfortunately. After leaving for work at 6:00 am, returning at 4:30, training clients until 8:00, swallowing some dinner, saying hi to my kids, showering, and attempting to spend a few minutes with my wife, time and energy seem to always be on the short side. Yeah, yeah, boohoo...

9/4
Thursday thrusters
95x5
115x5
150x5
150x5
150x5

9/9
15-12-9-6-3
SDHP 95#
Push jerk 95#
5:22
Last did this WOD 6/26. 2:54 with 75#. Way tougher with 95#.

Re: CrossFit Will County

9/11
Thruster 95x5, 125x5, 155x5, 155x3, 155x3
Went to an extremely dark place to get 5 reps with 155, could only manage
3s for remaining sets. Next time 5s across.

9/17
5 rounds for time:
10 SDLHP 95#
10 ring dips
-4:16
A fairly new client, Brearin, a jiu jitsu fighter who has competed at the international level and is a friggin' beast, had been on me to workout with him, to help push him. I'd been hesitant to do so for many reasons, not the least of which is that he pays me for coaching, and it is impossible to coach amidst a CrossFit WOD. Hearing this, my wife, also a trainer, volunteered to coach Brearin through the WOD, and so that excuse no longer held water. So I had to man up and confront the other excuse: that I was afraid to get housed in my own house. To top it off, we tied. Too close to call.

9/19
W/Brearin
Double alternating tabatas of:
Thrusters 120#/pullups
7/15
6/12
5/10
4/9
3/8
3/8
3/7
3/8
We actually tied...again. I got him by 2 thrusters and he edged me by 2 pullups. This was a horribly soul-crushing WOD. Brearin's ability to continually drive himself past the pain threshold astounds me.

9/20
5 rounds for time:
5 DLs 275#
10 burpees
-13:23
PR by 2:02, so that's pretty OK. Last did this in July. All burpees unbroken, most DL sets ridiculously broken.

9/22
"Chief"
5 intervals w/ 1 minute rest between
AMRAP in 3 minutes of:
3 power cleans 135#
6 pushups
9 squats
Completed 4 rounds in all 5 intervals. Totally underestimated how painful this one would be. Really wanted to tap out in round 4.

9/25
Deadlift
135x10
185x5
225x5
255x5
295x5

Barbell curls (why not? Gant's doing 'em)
55x5
65x5
75x5
75x3
75x5

9/27
"Josh"
For time:
21 OHS 95#
42 pullups
15 OHS
30 pullups
9 OHS
18 pullups
-11:35
Just didn't have it today with pullups. Couldn't seem to hold onto the bar for some reason. And I'm just not great at OHS. I predict a drastic improvement next time. I hope

10/3
Clean & jerk (135#) ladder WOD from mainsite:
Power clean/push jerk. Made it through 7 minutes complete, 5 reps in the
8th minute. 33 reps total.

10/6
Deadlift
135#x5
185#5
225#x5
275#x2
290#
305#x5

10/9

I'm frickin' determined to DL 400# by the end of the year.

10/11
Muscleups
5x5 (untimed)

100m tire flip for time:
4:30 Don't know how heavy the tire is, but it's 5' across and 2' wide. First 50m in 1:30. Everything is smoked today.
