I have a high end memory-foam mattress like a tempur-pedic, but with a better warranty. I paid around $3500 for it.

It has absolutely ruined me. I can't sleep anywhere away from home now without waking up sore.

Worth every penny. As much emphasis as people put on getting good sleep on here, I wouldn't skimp on the mattress. Spend as much as you can afford and get the best mattress you can. Oh, and I really love a memory foam pillow too... They're relatively cheap though.

Re: Please recommend a bed!

I have a tempur-pedic. I find it to be hot when I sleep as there is no air flow between me and the bed. My wife didn't like the sleepnumber when we got the tempur-pedic. I would get a sleepnumber now if I could.

Well...if your short cash...

frame...wooden futon, found on move out day( however, I had the below on the floor for a year before I found it. Metal ones were a dime a dozen, but I needed to cut a corner off to get it to fit and it didn't work with the metal..

mattress... futon, also found on move out day

topper .... 5" memory foam from ebay cost with ship was $130

Sleeps great..

Re: Please recommend a bed!

I have a sleep-number-type (comfortaire brand) bed with individual settings on each side. I'd buy another. Be sure to get one with a lot of padding on top or else you feel like you are on a balloon or pool raft.

I don't change mine often, but it nice to have it adjustable in case of injuries, weight gain/loss etc.. Even climate.

I'll go months with it firm, then soften it up a bit.

I would not recommend it if you want a really, really soft mattress. Then you feel the air moving around too much.

We have one of the higher end sleep number beds and love it. We also got their comforters that is thicker on one side than the other since, I am always too hot and my wife is always too cold.

Holy crap I didn't know such a thing existed! That might be my life saver come winter when she wants to drag out the giant down comforter that weighs 40lbs and is probably what sleeping on the surface of the sun is like.

Re: Please recommend a bed!

We went tempur-pedic a long time ago--honestly I do love it when it's chilly, but the comment earlier about airflow is relevant; it can feel a little close in the summer. Not sure the sleep-number is going to be loads better in that department, though.

Nice thing about the tempur-pedic (and maybe the sleep-number) is that you really don't need a box-spring; in fact, at the moment we just flop the mattress on the floor, as the bedframe was squeaking too much (ho ho ho, but seriously even getting up to go to the bathroom resulted in SQUUEEEEEEAKS; we just took the mattress and put it on the floor; problem solved).
