Thought about Machida?

After seeing him fight Tito, I thought he was boring and not worthy of being in top level MMA.

HOWEVER, last night I was quite impressed.

Any thoughts?

i thought the same thing, but he was definitely NOT boring to watch last night! i am starting to like is counterattack style offense, and I think if he gets the shot at Rashad, there will be a new champion

I agree as well. Against Tito it wasn't a very exciting fight but could see how he was going to succeed. He did show last night that his style of fighting can be exciting. He'll give Rashad a run for the title

Re: Thought about Machida?

He's a damn good fighter, but boring as hell. He's gotten by good against Sokoudjou and now Thiago. It's a perfect time to give him a title shot (business wise) coming off a KO win. He deserved a shot long ago, but too many boring decisions pro-longed it. I really hate to watch him fight, but he is just so good. I really dread seeing him as champ, but he deserves a shot...and I think he'll take rashad.

Re: Thought about Machida?

I am really starting to appreciate the disciplined and smart martial artist approach to MMA versus the fighter approach. I think Machida models the former very well.

Re: Thought about Machida?

I am not sure why people find Machida so boring how is being incredible skilled having the best timing footwork and most unorthodox and interesting striking not interesting the mans fights are works of art mastery, it reminds me of all the people who use to complain about the ground work just. When you understand what he is doing and how he is making it sucessfull its fascinating he hugely deserves a title shot and I think he has the best shot to end the merry go round at LW of any of the current contenders.

Re: Thought about Machida?

I think he's very good, and deserves a title shot. However, I do not think that some of the criticism he receives is unwarranted. He can be a bit boring at times. The Silva fight was good for him both as a stepping stone and a PR campaign b/c Silva is so aggressive there was no real break in the action.

Rashad vs. Lyoto...could be halfway through the second round before the first punch is thrown

Re: Thought about Machida?

I agree with the sentiment here... Machida is such a tactician, he's wonderful to watch. Not exciting for the casual fan maybe, but for some of us who appreciate the technicalities of martial arts, he borders on amazing. A couple more wins like that and it's cemented.
