Zone Breakfast - Porridge

Guys,

Reading the book with a plan to start fully into the Zone diet next month after a two week holiday.

Trying to get some recipes and starting with breakfast.

I eat porridge every morning but I am struggling to come up with a full recipe to get me all my P,C,F blocks.

I am on 19 blocks by my estimates and going with 1.5grams fat per block for now.

Anyway, for a 5 block brekkie I was thinking...
Porridge (21g Carb worth. Oat bran I have is 52g carbs per 100g).
So thats 40g of porridge? = 3C

Low fat Milk. 2 Cups = 2P + 2C (if thats too much milk for the porridge then I'll just drink the remainder).

1 Spoon Peanut butter = 2F

So still got 3P + 3F.
Almonds x 6 = 2F
Cashew x 2 = 1F

Protein Powder - Whatever amount gives me 21g of protein = 3P

Is that correct ? Thats 5P, 5C & 5F.

I will try that in the morning and can adjust if it doesn't ... taste right

Any comments ? Would it be easier if I ditched the milk and used water ? Am I calculating correctly ?

Re: Zone Breakfast - Porridge

I like to cook up my eggs and mash them into my oats.
I'll also add a few more things like spinach, onions, and some tabasco.

Re: Zone Breakfast - Porridge

i'm on an 18 +1.5F block plan. For breakfast, i cook a bit more than 1/2 cup of oatbran (4blocks carbs) + 1 cup of cottage cheese (4 blocks protein) and 3 teaspoons of peanut butter (6blocks fat). Just add some cinnamon and it's good to go. :stir:

Re: Zone Breakfast - Porridge

I make steel cut oats for me and family about 3X a week. For 8 blocks worth I start with 2/3 cup dry oats. When cooked, add 1.5 cups cottage cheese, 14g worth of protein powder, 8 blocks crushed nuts of choice, some cinnemon, vanilla, and each bowl gets 1/2 cup grapes or strawberry. Very good and even my toddler loves it.

Love the egg and peanut butter idea. This weekend I may poach some eggs and add them to the cooked oats.
