There were a ton about them in the course last year as well and we didn't see them. You HAVE to take that course to judge Regionals and the Games so it's all inclusive. Just because you see something on the test doesn't mean it was in preparation for the Open.

I can't see hq putting bar muscle ups in the open. Too many People will be doing the open in garages and other places where bar muscle ups aren't a possibility because of ceiling height. We are due for a heavier clean and jerk workout along with overhead squats. A ladder would be nice.

I had a few girls that couldn't do the shoulder to overhead weight in 13.2, and it was pretty discouraging for them. I know there is no way for literally everyone to be able to do everything without it becoming the P90x Open, but just a little would be nice.
I agree, all of the Open workouts should be fairly accessible or it defeats the purpose, and is likely a major reason why a lot of people don't sign up.

Here's my 14.1:

"Mini-Cindy" = "Mindy"

10min AMRAP
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Squats

I'd like to see that, but I bet it would cut out a lot of people on the fence about signing up by starting with pull-ups right away on the first wod. I'd guess at least 20% of the people at the boxes I've been to can't do an unassisted pull up. Might be something for one of the later wods.
I'm guessing they go with another couplet of a very basic bodyweight movement that everyone can do, and an olympic lift that people would associate with CF.

I'm all for the repeat of last years first wod, but swapping clean and jerks for snatches. Hoping it escalates in weight quickly like 95, 155, 225, 250. Something along those lines. I can't do 250, but I wouldn't be getting that far in 17 minutes anyway.

Just did that WOD and I am not alone. For that reason alone I am doubting it would happen. We used 95/145/195/245 (50# incements actually makes sense, and why they chose the weights and increments for the snatch ladder eludes me, it makes no sense and changing the weights was a huge pain) 155/225 would slow down a lot of people. The C & J cycles much slower than the snatch

Just saw they announced 14.1 will be Garret Fisher against Marcus Hendren. That should be a good match up.

I would love this workout. Especially if the pull ups are c2b. However, I don't think this would be a good wod for the Open as there would not be much separation between and among Games and Regional calibre athletes. I think Regional and Games calibre athletes could do that wod without much slowing down and people would get very close to the same score.

But maybe, if you had to do something much harder, like 10 muscle ups after 10 rounds, then you'd get some separation.

I do think we will see a ladder ascending reps in one WOD and a ladder of weights in a different wod.

Re: 14.1 What do you think it will be?

Things that are out:

Bar muscleups (for reasons stated already)
Burpee pullups or burpee TTB: most people can't adjust bar height and that would make a HUGE difference for burpee jump to a bar movements.
(IMO) Mindy. Regular pullups and air squats aren't easy enough to judge consistently. CTB or wallballs are better because the criteria is far more clear.

I do like the burpee C&J ladder, though. That's a contender. Easy to judge and gets real challenging. Maybe burpee C&J ladder with burpees over the bar.
