Help with W/F safe joke

I read a good joke a long time ago about fathers' wisdom, but I forgot it. Here's what I remember, except it sounds lame:

“When I was growing up I used to think my dad was wrong about everything. Twenty years later, I marvel at how much he’s learned.”

I want to use this joke for a speech I have to give, and of course it's about how we all think we know more than our father, only we don't in many cases. If anyone knows the joke, please reply here!

1) That looks like Topher Grace, but what movie is it from?

2) The joke sounds very familiar, but I think I heard it in a comic routine. Or I might just not know what I'm talking about.

Re: Help with W/F safe joke

It is a paraphrase of a quote attributed to Mark Twain: "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."

Definitely Twain, I love that quote. He also has a funny one about the angst of raising teenagers. To paraphrase: when the child becomes a teen seal him up in a barrel and feed him through a hole, when he turns sixteen, plug up the hole. Nice, morbid Twain.

Lol. Thanks, guys. Really appreciate it. And of course it had be to Twain. A true literary genius, among the wittiest right up there with Oscar Wilde.

CrossFitters might enjoy the one Twain said about smoking --or quitting it:

"Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it a million times!"

Re: Help with W/F safe joke

My dad always told me "The older I get, the smarter my father gets". Yeah, it's true.
