I would argue that Oly lifting, squats, doubleunders, and occasional box jumps are far more effective than a calf raise machine.

More effective for what? Getting big calves?

My only point was at least they were doing SOME form of leg exercise, whereas the majority of "gym bros" don't do any.

I hate to be the one to break it to you but nurses/phlebotomists say all kinds of stupid **** to people to distract them from the fact they're about to get a needle stuck in them.

I don't mind having a needle go in me at all. One time (prior to Crossfitting but was doing weight lifting), a nurse told me that my vein was so strong she almost thought it was a tendon. Seemed kind of worrisome but she checked both arms, said 'yup its a vein' and poked me.

I had the opposite experience once - new nurse tried for 5 minutes, through my screams, to get blood out of tendon.
