5k

After doing crossfit for 5-6 weeks, I was able to finish my first ever 5k today!!! It was in 26.45 (leaving much room for improvement), but for this former chubby school kid I am so excited!!! CF!

Re: 5k

Congratulations! That is very cool news!!

I will be hitting the 5K myself later. I haven't done any running of any kind in years do to knee injuries and a knee surgery. But I am most definitely feeling up to it. However, I used to run regularly, and so I am curious about how I'll do since it has been so long. Needless to say, I'm excited!

Re: 5k

That's fantastic man, keep it up and lower that run time. It's a great 5k time for somebody new to this also! Next step is to go under 24:00 and then 20:00 eh?

Re: 5k

I'm very impressed, that number will drop substantially if that is your first one.

Re: 5k

Jonathon,
That would be a passing time on the Marine Corps PFT. Good effort for a first attempt.

Re: 5k

You guys are insane. I can do the pullups, dips, muscleups, L-sits, hspu's, etc. and not feel too too embarrassed when I post my times; but the 5K run is a completely different story. This was only my 2nd 5K ever and my time dropped to 41:00 from 45:52 last month. I'm psyched that it dropped 5 minutes, but it seems the majority of the times posted are in the 20-30 minute range. If I can shave off 5 minutes the next couple times I'll at least be at the back of the pack.

Talking Re: 5k

Before I started CrossFitting in June, I used to run a lot, trying to lose weight. Usually 5-8 miles 4-5 times per week, and I was averaging 10:30-11:00 miles. I ran the Cleveland 10K in May and clocked in at 1:05:55.

From June until late August, I did almost no distance running, focusing completely on CrossFit workouts. When I did my first exclusive running workout, a 5K on August 28th, I finished in 26:59. Average of 8:46/mile, a 2-minute per mile improvement. Two weeks later, I did 2.55 miles in 21 minutes; 8:13/mile!

I'm 5'10" and 230 lbs., and carrying some extra fat. I was always okay with stamina while running, just couldn't keep up much speed. To see this kind of speed and stamina improvement after almost completely abandoning distance running for several months, to me, is incredible.

I'm an absolute CrossFit disciple. This stuff WORKS!
