What does multiple workouts a day really mean?

What does it mean when they say top athletes do like 5 workouts a day? Bec for me a workout is like : 1) strength component (squats , dead, etc) plus mabye an Olympic lift on some days 2 ) skill strength (strict HSPU sets, strict pullups, dips, etc) 3) skill work (handstand holds and walks, pistols, etc) 4) metcons 5) mobility work*

So do they like do this 5 times a day or would they have 5 different sessions and work each separately or mabye do like 3 metcons or something?

I think people confuse "gym sessions" with "workouts." As you laid yours out, I think that qualifies as four workouts (not counting mobility work). I think I technically do two workouts per class at my box; we (almost) always do a strength session followed by a metcon.

For me, a strength session with a metcon tacked on in a 1 hour period is 1 workout. An early morning run from 6-7, with a weightlifting session 10-12, then metcon (could be multiple couplets or triplets with rest periods between them) in the afternoon from 3-4, then gymnastic skill work in the evening is 4 sessions in a day (for me).

Re: What does multiple workouts a day really mean?

Usually it's per "session"

So an early morning strength time
A few hours later some skill work
A few hours later some cardio/wod

That would be 3 workouts. Some might add gymnastics or other stuff or even a possible Long steady cardio (rowing for 20-30 mins) as recovery work for a 4th

Many of them live at the box/gym and can do this without really impacting their lifestyle.
