Re: Deadlift and lower back issue...

I've been using a cue from Kelly, basicly to get tight in the upper position before starting to deadlift and it seems to work very well for me:

The only thing I dont like is the position of the bar, it seems a bit too behing, other than that I think I've improved my form?

Re: Deadlift and lower back issue...

Dare, One thing that helps a loosen up the lower back. And b teach you the que for engaging your back for the DL. Is the superman.
Lying prone, Lifting both arms and chest up. Then both feet of the floor.
It's a good stretch and your going to find that it loosens you up nicely.

The accordion in the background? Mmmmm. Not quite lifting music but then again, my father ..who was Slovenian used to say that slivovitz made him sleepy.

Re: Deadlift and lower back issue...

Frank, thanks...the superman seems to work, I already see progress. I just wonder if holding in superman position is good enough or other variation of the exercise shall be used?

Elliot posted an informative video for me today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEje2HsPuzY (from 5m10s onwards). The subject had to stand by a wall and raise his knee to about 90 angle and then extending his leg. I've tried it and I cannot extend the leg by a lot as something starts to tighten up, it seems the tightness comes from all over the place, the calves, the hams, the quads...if the subject in video was able to extend his leg fully, by a 90 from hanging position, I can only do it to a rough 45.

This clearly is a sign of something wrong, but I cant figure out what Is it a mobility or weakness issue, where? The knee itself I can raise a lot higher, so I guess its not the hip flexors, but as soon as I start to extend the leg...hell breaks out

PS, such a small world!
