Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

Hardcore Paleo advocates will say that peanuts are legumes, and thus poison for you.

I am skeptical (disclosure: I am also a peanut butter addict), so I would say it's not terrible for you except for the fact you are getting an awful lot of calories from just one source. But if you have a balanced, varied diet otherwise, and you're not gaining weight, and you feel healthy and everything's working for you, I don't see a problem.

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

I will have to read that article. I fall in the same boat, constantly shoveling peanut butter in. Starts up with a scoop or two, before I know it, I am 6 tablespoons deep. Ouch.

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

I was the same way, but have officially converted to almond butter, and am now an AB addict. Supposedly almonds are better for you, and I love the slightly sweet taste. Still lots of fat and calories, though, but hopefully slightly better than PB.

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

If your interested in getting "in the zone" a jar of PB every 3 days will most likely keep you out. Are you counting the PB towards your fat blocks or is this in addition to your regular diet?

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

Yeah, almond butter is great just a bit more expensive. Trader Joe's has them for 3.99 where I am at. I'm thinking of trying the sunflower seed butter next time I'm there.

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

yeah the only problem with almond butter is that it's more expensive. we try to eat all organic here, but organic AB is like $16/container. Maranatha non-organic is $5. Not organic, but still a good brand, so we try to go for that.

Re: All Natural Peanut Butter

Sometimes, when I am in a nut butter phase, I make my own with various combinations. The one I enjoy most is:
1 c chopped walnuts
1 c chopped pecans
1/3 c gr flaxseed
whiz them all together in food processor. scrape down sides several times until consistency is like nut butter. I found this variety doesnt need any add'l oil to get it going. If you feel differently, just add 1 T olive oil while it is whirling around!!
But, beware, it is addictive too!
