Pre-bed food

I have often had a blended shake of

- 8 oz milk
- 8 oz water
- 1 scoop whey protein
- squirt of flax seed oil
- Half to one cup of fat free cottage cheese

What is your take on this compared to an ideal caveman diet?

Re: Pre-bed food

Cavemen didn't drink milk, or whey, or cottage cheese. Nor did they probably use flax.

I do Zone/Paleo with some dairy, and I am a huge proponent of flaxmeal (not oil).

But a caveman wouldn't have had any of these things except the water.

Re: Pre-bed food

High carbs before bed blunts your body's natural production of Growth Hormone while sleeping, due to a high insulin spike (GH and insulin levels are inversely related).

Dairy spikes insulin even more than the carbohydrates in it would suggest.

Not what I would suggest. Protein and/or fat before bed, if anything at all.

Re: Pre-bed food

I drink 8oz of water with 2 scoops of whey protein (a bedtime mixture). Sometimes I might eat a teaspoon of Almond Butter. Plus I take 2 ZMA's before going to bed.

Re: Pre-bed food

If I eat aything other than a light protein laden snack before bed I can't sleep. Too many carbs stokes the furnace and makes the heat pour out of me and its a miserable night.

How do you know?

You know, Obama Bin Laden lives in a cave, along with all his Taliban buddies, technically, they're "cavemen".

Matt;
Expect to see Rev. Al and Jesse at your door step any moment, they should be stopping over from the Jena 6 circus.

Dudes . . . watch where this is going.

Back to the topic at hand?

Anyone know if cultured milk (e.g., yogurt) has the same insulin-driving effects as "regular" dairy?
