Difference between Track Speed Suits and Weightlifting Singelts

I am in the process of shopping for a weightlifting singlet and noticed that the track singelts are much much cheaper but seem very similar in style. Has anyone ever wore a track suit for competition? Is there a big difference? I have never worn one before and was just asking if someone could help with experience. Thanks.

I have seen some pretty cool adidas ringer t's being worn under some singlets from some lifters, does anyone have any links to some t-shirts that could be worn underneath that are a ringer style? I can't find any plan adidas ringers with the stripes on the arm. Thanks.

Mike,

I don't think theres much difference between the weightlifting singlets I've used and a speed suit, but the really nice singlets have grip on the chest to help with the jerk.

By the way, I still have your jacket.

I use a track singlet for my competitions, and not all weightlifting singlets have the "grip" on the thighs and shoulders.

Here is an adidas singlet i like , the atenus version and the t-shirt to wear underneath which I was talking about. Those are nice but more than i want to spend on this item.

I liked this track speed suit but it's unavailable. I"m having a hard time finding track suits in a 2xl or 3xl.

Re: Difference between Track Speed Suits and Weightlifting Singelts

I use a rowing singlet (from here (wfs), essentially the same as a track singlet. The only real difference I've noticed between it and the higher-end lifting suits is that the lifting suits have tougher/reinforced fabric on the thighs, where the bar will brush, and maybe the extra fabric that Jamie mentioned. Nice to have, but probably not vital to extend the life of the singlet unless you train in it frequently.

JL makes fairly reasonably priced custom suits, I'm sure they could get a 2-3x no problem. You could also try wrestling singlets, quite a few lifters use them.

My favorite source for singlets:

http://www.singlets.com
link is work/family safe

Custom colors, numerous styles, low prices, and I've had EXCELLENT service from them. I once called with a question at 6pm on a Saturday, talked to Kim the owner, got my question answered and had the custom singlet in my hand on Wednesday without having to request a rush order.

Re: Difference between Track Speed Suits and Weightlifting Singelts

Thanks for the links guys. The rowing one's are much more expensive than the adidas weightlifting singlets and the wrestling one's are about the same price. My one friend said he bought on one on ebay for like $30 it is a wrestling singlet and looks decent. But I don't see those available anymore he said he bought it like two years ago. I"ll keep searching thanks to those who have helped.

I got my singlet from www.eastbay.com (WFS), just search under both singlet and speedsuit.

An FYI on (wfs) http://www.ahpequipment.com/products...nd_club_.shtml

They no longer sell weightlifting suits. I emailed them and got that reply.
