Has anyone done this? I experimented last week with an old rope of mine. I tried climbing 3 and 4 ropes, but neither felt quite right. My wife offered to briad 3 together - has anyone tried this?
Thanks |

Dan Snyder posted a good link with directions for a four-strand climbing rope on this page:
http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/26/21089.html I haven't tried it yet, so keep me posted if you do. |

Ususally the mantal(outside covering) is too slick to be good for griping with hands however striping the cover and and braiding the Core would be a good if not time consuming option but I think would still be very abusive to your hands.

Dan Snyder's method works great, I have two ropes made like that.

Not too stretchy? Seems like the dynamic quality of a modern climbing (belay) rope is at odds with what you want for a gym-climbing rope. I guess 4 braided together would be 1/4 as responsive to loading.

I used the 4-braid technique with my old ropes and it works fine for me. No problems on my hands. Less stretch than a single strand but there is still a bit.
