I take Krav Maga in Lincolnwood. I've been there exactly a year. I am still a beginner. I'm just beginning to sparr. It's really cool. Also, can't wait 'till summer to take O-lifting at Harper since this is the only way i can learn and practice those lifts.
P.S. Just finished watching UFC. Awesome night! My country man Andrei Arlovsky was really good. So was Chuck Lidell!

Patrick-
Yep, it's Chicago. i live neat the North Ave/ Damen area.
Shane- Great Lakes is about 35-40 miles from downtown Chicago. That's not far, but as always, traffic is the mitigating factor in any journey.

Dave. I think anyone can take OLY lifting classes. Go to the admissions office and talk to them. All you have to do is pay like $25(maybe a little more) Harper registration fee and the class fee - 1 credit hour = $71. Class meets twice a week which is really all you need. There are morning and evening classes. I will be taking an evening class - Tue, Thur 8-9p.m or something like that. The summer semester is short - 8 weeks but I think you can take the class continuously - in the fall too. Make sure you register early enough. Hope to see you there.

Dave-
I think there is (or was) O-lifting at one of the Park districts also. I heard of it a long time ago, and I'm not sure where it was. I think it was on the Northwest side, maybe Portage Park. I saw it on an episode of 'Wild Chicago' on WTTW a few years ago; there was coaching, and several experienced lifters.

Thanks Steve!

I have been to the place, it's on Oak Park & Fullerton roughly

Full OLY set-up but no coaching anymore. There are a lot of old timers that are very helpful. I plan on going there but though a class would help first. ALso the park district fee is only $20 for 10 weeks.

Let me know if you need more info.

I think the name of the class is Olympic and Power Weightlifting. It's offered as a physical education class. They'll know for sure what you are talking about because the only other weightlinfting class they have is a regular weight lifting class. I read the description of it in the booklet(which you can order on-line or pick-up at Harper). It says, in class, you learn all the major Olympic and Power lifts and assistance excercises and develop your technique. Pretty cool! This is what I need.
