Otherwise, I work out from my home or a nearby park at the weekend (Toshimaen). Neither is ideal for CrossFit in terms of equipment etc. but we can still do an awful lot.
Thanks for getting back. Not quite sure where Toshimaen is...I think it's a bit far isn't it? How long is your commute to work?

I actually work in Akasaka~! Right next to exit 7 across from the AM PM.
Unfortunately, long lunch breaks are out of the question. (This is Japan--what's a lunch break?!??)

However, would love to pick your brain if you're up for grabbing lunch sometime. Grilled fish anyone?

Best,
Tina

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

Doesn't even have to be a long lunch break - I'm usually back within the hour. That's the beauty of Crossfit really. You just have to train your co-workers a bit.

My building is at Tameikesanno Station, which is just a couple of mins walk away from you I think. Can do lunch anytime!

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

oh yeah, Toshimaen is about 45 mins away from Akasaka on the Oedo line. It's a long way to go to work-out I guess but everything good in Tokyo is about that far away I find.

I live near Cormac and we try to make it to the park once a week. Other than that I workout in Hikarigaoka Park and in Tokyo Gym which is in Sendagaya.. near Yoyogi etc. I usually go in the evening. You can PM me for any details or just post here.
Hi Aaron!

What kind of stuff can be done at the park?? I have a park near my house. I thought it was Hikarigaoka...or maybe it's Hibarigaoka? Will have to check and get back.

Do you ever go on the weekends?

Hi Tina,
I do go on the weekends. I'm there almost everyday. On Saturday I usually do interval training in the mornings then do the WOD that night. Sunday's are either in the park with Cormac or in Hikarigaoka Park.

what to do in the park:
Hand stand push ups
push ups
ring dips (if you buy them 6000~8000 yen)
squats
sit ups
walking lunges
pull ups
burpees
double unders ( if you have a jump rope )
running / sprints

If you have dumbells / kettle bells
weight pullups
swings
weighted walking lunges
etc.

WODs
Barbara
Cindy
Mary
Helen ( needs weight )
50-40-30-20-10 ( combination of any of the above )
etc.

As you can see, just use the main site as a reference and mix and match exercises. You need to be careful when doing so, gotta make sure you are hitting the metabolic zones. I usually follow the main site as best I can and limit the heavy stuff to Mon Thurs Sat nights. The rest of the time I'm doing bodyweight exercises and endurance stuff.

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

Hello,

I am in Meguro-ku, Tokyo. I am a keen cyclist and I have I've done a few WODs at a local gym. I'm still a complete crossfit newbie so it would be really good if I could learn from some other people.

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

Hey there Paul,

Meguro is quite close to Sendagaya. My schedule is quite sporadic these days, but usually on Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:30pm I go to the only (that I know of) Olympic gym in Tokyo. It is the tokyo taikukan in Sendagaya. It's not ideal for CrossFit but they do have excellent squat racks and its a pretty safe place to work out. They also allow weight dropping (I believe). It is 450 yen for one time.

I have been trying to gather a group together and it seems people are keen to go. Most of them beginners. All of the exercises are scalable so its not a big problem if you don't have much experience.

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the reply.
If you are going to Sendagaya this Thursday I'd definitely look to come along as well.
Otherwise I'm free any weekday evening.

Re: Tokyo CrossFitters?

Hello,

I will be visiting my brother in Tokyo over Easter. I am wondering if I could meet up with some Crossfitters while I am there. I would love to show my brother what it is we do. It would also be fun to trade ideas and tips.

Can you please e-mail or post when/where people Crossfit? If there is a regular group now, do you have any days or times when most people are together?

Thank you,

Kristin
