The Air Bike is a difficult machine. It's great for short intervals and sprinting, although I do use it some for longer time duration pieces.

A rower is great for just about everything and you'd probably get more use out of it. So, in my opinion I would go with the rower.

Rower first... then assault bike or airdyne from Craigslist/similar site.

Re: Rower or Assault bike

I have only had access to a rower and i tired out an airdyne this summer.

The airdyne is killer and something I now miss. If you get an airdyne you will be limited but you can do allot of wods with it and I think it can really take you to the next level. If you are looking for the burn and allot of them then go with the airdyne.

I would go with the airdyne

The Airdyne is a great burner, but I favor the rower. The movement on a rower translates better to other movements we use in CrossFit (squat, clean, SDHP, bench press, etc.)
