i'm 38 and bought a skateboard today. crazy. about 20yrs ago i skated a bit but haven't been on a board in a long long time. i was surprised at what a killer workout i had. i skated to the gym and back and was really feeling it. i beefed twice on sidewalk but no serious injuries. i may try to skate a ramp again! yikes.

I started skateboarding when I was 14 and am now 21 because of college the only time i have to skate anymore is in the summer and I was always surprised at how much of a workout it could be sometimes. I never really understood why but now looking at the ollie it pretty much is like an air squat or a box jump. Tabata ollies would be interesting.

theres alot of squatting, fast reflexes, and bursts of exertion. i was really surprised at how much a short skate took out of me. i'm going to keep at it, its a blast (even if i look like a dork).

A long time ago my main mode of transportation was a skateboard, and it definitely increased my timing, balance, coordination, and stamina. I've put on a few too many lbs. to skate anymore, but it's great fun. A funny side note to the too many lbs. comment: 3 years ago I was helping a friend move and his son had a skateboard in the driveway, I told him I used to be able to ollie over 6 boards...so he asked me to show him....I skated up & down the driveway to get some balance, then proceeded to ollie pretty high for a big, old guy...and upon landing blew up the poor kid's deck!!!...it was hilarious...I bought the kid a new rig and all was well...lesson, if you weigh 335lbs.(at that time)don't ollie!!

Anyway, have fun skating and if you get the chance, buy a long board, lots and lots of fun!!!

Jim.

Way to go Tyler.

I keep telling/fooling myself that I will buy a skateboard and re-live my youth. Pool riding was great fitness.

have fun

Re: Skateboarding

I'm 38 w/ a family and I bought a board this year. When I went into the store to "just look around" The guy pulls out a deck that some pro (Screech of Addikt) gave him down in Macon a week earlier. Lo and behold it has a reissue Mark Gonazales Vision graphic from the first real skateboard I owned back in like 85'. Blew my mind!!! I immediately tell him to build it up.

I've ridden the park a few times-scared the ****ake out of me. It's still fun and I love the looks on the 14 year olds when old fat bearded dude is dropping in...

Latest development, I've been lookin at longboards and routes to do a self supported trans-Georgia skatetrek...holla
