Muscle Ups and arm/wrist protection

I see some older threads on this topic but basically I'm fighting the lovely wrist bruising on muscle ups as well as strap burns on my tricep area. It looks like I'm just going to have to suck it up and build up calluses on my wrists unless there are any new ideas? Also, a couple of guys at my gym cut holes in the end of some soccer socks ($6) and pull them up their arms to protect against strap burn. It looks odd but they swear by them. Any other ideas floating around?

Re: Muscle Ups and arm/wrist protection

I used to wear a long sleeved t-shirt for muscle ups, helps with the burns but does get a bit hot. Nowadays I tend to wear my long sleeved Skins (http://store.skins.net/intl/all-prod...leeve-top.html - WFS). Cost a bit, but I think they're worth it. Anything that covers your triceps area will help with strap burn, however. You can even tape the area.

Do you actually bruise your wrists? I tend to just rub the skin raw there. Anything in between the wrists and rings will help there too. Tape and Skins will stay in place for a WOD.

Re: Muscle Ups and arm/wrist protection

My wrists bruised before we added tape on the rings. Now my wrists rub raw with the tape but I'm sure it will bruise.

Sidebar-I've been practicing false grip pullups to get better at mu's and was getting very frustrated with my grip. It is very humid here and I kept slipping off. We just taped our rings and it's a different ballgame. Now it's time to get to work on the rings!

You can also get some of those compression sleeves from wal-mart for relatively cheap, they have helped me with the strap burn.

But if you can afford the Skins definitely go for it.
