Re: Main page spam filter

Lynne,

I am very interested in the spam filter that you end up with. I am getting hit with about 100 spam hits a day on our blog. We are using the spam filter on moveable type and are getting smoked with spam.

Nothing better than getting 100 blog entries about Christmas lights!

Re: Main page spam filter

Bill,
We're using akismet plus a bunch of hand-tuned filters in the native MT setup.

Akismet was written for wordpress but they have a Movable Type version. It's by no means perfect, but we get 3-500 spams a day, and it catches the VAST majority of them.

Unfortunately, it has a really high false positive rate for us; the developers said that posts with a lot of numbers and symbols (like WOD results) will trigger.

Good luck; it's an easy install. And I'd sure rather get those Christmas light spams than the regular variety of horrifying porn spams!

Re: Main page spam filter

The spam filter seems to have been changed two days ago. Starting two days ago, my posts have started going straight through; no more "filter page warning thingy" comes up. Thanks. You must have made a modification recently.

Thumbs up Re: Main page spam filter

Last week I installed reCAPTCHA (wfs). I was getting slammed with spam on my MovableType installation at Cleveland CrossFit but reCAPTCHA works wonders, not a single spam comment for a week! I recommend it for the main CF site - it could allow you to decrease your akismet filter sensitivity and lower your false positives.
