Re: Official WordPress users thread.

Maybe you guys can help me. I'm awaiting a confirmation email for affiliation approval and wondering how I even begin with this website thing.

I know next to nothing about building a website.

Find a hosting company. Most will host your website and have a way of installing some CMS like Wordpress, Joomla, or Drupal.

Pick a platform to use for your site. Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal. From there I would pick a them and just start following tutorials on how to build it.

So this shouldn't be too difficult? I have a friend that has experience in building websites that is offering to help. Hopefully the two of us can get this going.

Thanks Jeff.

I appreciate it. I'll probably get this thing moving once I hear from HQ.

Thanks. When I was looking for a box to join. This was one of things I was looking for. I feel that the site is an indicator of how the box is ran.

There are many contact form plugins available. Just look and find the one that fits your needs the best since it doesn't sound like you'll be able to customize it yourself.

Re: Official WordPress users thread.

WordPress is, IMHO, the only way to go for building a web site. Even if you're technically capable of coding a website by hand, it's mostly a waste of time and money for a small business to go to that level. Most small business websites contain information that is well-suited for WordPress, so I recommend securing hosting & a .com domain name, installing the latest version of WordPress, and then customizing it all to your liking.

Here's a quick checklist on how to get a WP site up:
  • Register a Domain Name
  • Host Your Site
  • Install WordPress on Your Host
  • Log In and Get Familiar with the Dashboard
  • Install Themes and Plugins
  • Activate and Configure Themes and Plugins
  • Add Pages for Static Content
  • Consider Blogging

All of these are described in a blog post I published recently:
http://boxhacks.com/attract-crossfit...ordpress-site/

I am a software developer and Crossfit enthusiast. I'd be happy to help anyone with any specific WP questions you have. It's pretty simple to get a site up and running, but as they say "the devil's in the details" with customization. Cheers! -Matt
