I was ticked that the numerous metal concerts I've been to caused me to not be able to hear it. So I pitch-shifted it for all us old folks.

Interesting, I can actually hear the NY times one. I cannot here The one posted at The Register.

The one at the Register kind of pulses, with some kind of crazy laugh about 11-12 seconds into it.
The NY Times one is a constant pitch.

Folks just need to be more aware of protecting their hearing and they will be able to hear these high pitched annoying sounds for a long long time :-P

heh, good point Roger... I choose LIFE over being able to hear 17khz tones!! Bring on the Metallica I say!!

I'm a musician so hearing full spectrum sound is pretty important to me. I've never liked loud music, and seriously do not understand how volume would increase enjoyment. I like metalica, but below 90db. It just gets uncomfortable louder...
