Re: need advice about how to combine crossfit with muay thai training...

Hey man, welcome to the boards. As per the FAQs, it's pretty much standard practice to start with the WODs. The typical regiment (from what I've gathered) is three on, one off. So, train Mon., Tues., Weds., and take Thursday off. Get back on for Fri., Sat., Sun., and take Monday off. Given that you're training Thai as well, you might need more rest. I train four days a week of BJJ, with Crossfit between and Sunday as a rest day. It took a little adjustment, but I'm doing well now. Though, I definitely rest on my rest day.

Ultimately, your body needs to make the decision for you. If you feel run down, or too sore, rest. Listen to your body. It's better to take an extra day off rather than injure, over train or get sick.

Sorry for the confusion, but I meant Crossfit three on and one off. Anyway, all of this is explained in the FAQs far better than my noob butt could ever even hope to.

Re: need advice about how to combine crossfit with muay thai training...

I just started crossfitting about 1 month ago to supplement my Taekwondo training, and I have to admit that I am addicted to it! I work out Mon, Tue, Wed. Thursday is my "light day" where I jog 800m with a #20 weighted vest (i'm working up to 1600m) and practice something that I absoultely suck at (double unders) or work on form (butt up, back extension, keep that chest up). On Fri and Sat, I am back at it again and Sunday is my off day.

Hope this helps! I'm a noob too, but after 1 month of CrossFit, I can't imagine doing anything else!

I also train Mauy Thai, I'm finding it hard to mix in the CF. I did the hour class, then went to the gym about 45min later, and did the BW bench press/ pull-ups for 5 rounds, as per the WOD - kicked my butt!

I think it'll be doable, but it'll take some time to work out the kinks. CF should have been done first, then Thai I think. Or alternate days - but the consensus seems to be that to make CF work, you need to be doing the WOD consistently.

Hey Jaime,

I am an amateur fighter (mma). I train muay thai/bjj/mma 6 days a week for almost 3 hours each night. I do CF or interval training and tabatas in the AM each day... Well, almost. Sometimes I take the AM off to recover. Very rarely though. I take contrast showers every night after training to prevent soreness, but some nights, soreness can't be avoided.

My favorite WOD is Helen. I like the swings. Fight gone bad is good also.
What are you looking to improve on in MT?? Anything in particular??

Welcome! Hope this helps.

Re: need advice about how to combine crossfit with muay thai training...

If you train in the evening, simply do CF in the morning. If this isn't possible, try to schedule it so you have as much recuperation time as possible. You could also try to CrossFit after MT but again as much time in between as well as hydration and eating with a reasonable amount of time before workout so ya don't feel bloated or puke.
