Eugene's Birthday Pullup Challenge Approaches

November 27th fast approaches. Time to grab a bar and pull your self up. A lot. Change grips, add weight, work your kip, do sets of max efforts but for sure ramp up your volume and get your grip used to holding on for a long time. Think back and remember what you did last year and do a few more this year. If you can't do any, now's a good time to make sure you get on the scoreboard with at least one.

Rules:

No grip aids save for tape if you are worried about tearing off blisters and chalk is OK of course. No straps or wraps of any kind. No jumping, bands or assistance, just you and the bar.

Once you are on the bar your numbers only count for that visit. Come off the bar and you have to start over.

If you can't do it on the 27th but can on the 24th, no problem. Even a few days after is fine. Do it in November though.

The idea is that you find out what your pullup max is and we keep score for our very pullup-centric community.

Feel free to chime in and perhaps offer up a goal number. I will be turning 53 on the 27th and want to do at least that many, more if I can stay on the bar. My grip failed me at 51 last year.

I think I got 33 for this one last year? Or was it 32? Anyways, I did 46 a while after that.

But really, don't you want to make this challenge more exciting? Like a Eugene's Birthday Muscle-up Challenge?

Derek - feel free to have the Derek's Birthday MU Challenge. I chose the pullup because it is such an integral part of CrossFit workouts and a bit more accessible to the masses. The MU is not quite as universally doable.

Nah, I just meant you. You should make your goal 1 muscle-up + 53 pull-ups.

Variety is also an integral part of Crossfit workouts.

Or did you already get the shoulder flexibility issues worked out?

Aha...now I see. Calling me out. Nope, I still have the shoulders of an osteoporotic octegenarian. Thank you for noticing and making such a public spectacle of my weakness. It's getting to be that I am the only guy in my gym that can't do a muscle up. Ben, Stuart, Alex...they can do it, but I just wiggle like a fish on a hook.

Still working on it.

OK, my max all time is 46 on my 46th birthday, so
now that I am 48, I'll shhot for that, if I make it and feel good enough
I'll try to get 50.

You'll get it... just no forgetting about it.

If it's any consolation, you're free to make fun of my lifts at the Washington Open this Saturday.

Fat bar pullups help me a lot. I got to 52 by using a fat one during WODs then switching back to a normal sized one. Breathing helped a lot also.

Wherever I may be at that time, I will participate. I fully expect Eugene to beat me. Let's do it!

Thanks for describing my m/u attempts to a "T". I'll have our evening crew do your challenge on the 27th. It should be fun.
