Bar muscle ups for Ryan

About Sunday's WOD Ryan. I don't have access to rings at the moment. I am currently making a request in at my school gym to get some. So I did three bar muscle-ups instead per round. This is my first post here. I've been doing crossfit for about two weeks, and about a week ago I could only do two muscle-ups on the bar once in a row, then got burned out from there. With the three bar MUs, my time today was 22 minutes. I'll just say right now what everyone knows that CrossFit is amazing. So much more efficient than my 2-2.5 hour workouts that I had sometimes done earlier that didn't acheive nearly the same results, especially not as fast.

My question is, how do bar MUs translate into ring MUs? I have never been on rings, but it seems the bar might be harder since your center of gravity is thrown off, you have to swing yourself over the edge, and your grip isn't as flexible to move to the most comfortable position as you pull/push yourself up as it is with the rings. But I could be wrong, rings aren't as stable as a bar. Is three bar MUs comparable to 7 ring? Is there any supplemental work I could do to fill in any missed muscle work?

Thanks, and good to be here.

With optimal technique, yes, deadhang bar muscleups are harder than deadhang ring.

Re: Bar muscle ups for Ryan

I have a much harder time all around with muscle ups on a bar. I can easily do deadhang ring muscle ups but I cannot stay symmetrical on the bar even when kipping.

I think its just a variance in individuals...there is a guy at our affiliate who fly's over the bar and makes it look really easy but has a hard time on the rings.

People aren't taught proper technique and/or they take the time to develop it.

If they did they would find them in order of difficulty that I mentioned.

Steven is right. I find bar muscle ups easier than rings, but that is only because I have limited ring experience. The more I get on the rings, the easier they are becoming.

Re: Bar muscle ups for Ryan

I just recently (last 2 months) learned to do kipping Bar MU and at least for me they seem harder than kipping ring MU for sure but I would be interested to see if any one has comparables from one to another.

I answered the difficulty above...

Look guys if you want me to go over the technique for all of them I can or find some vids on youtube. It's not that hard.

But saying you think X is harder than Y when you don't know how to do the technique correctly or haven't practiced one or the other is just WRONG.
