shipping a barbell

I want to ship my bar from my house to a friend. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Who is best to ship with, how much can I expect to pay (45lb bar), and how did you do it? I still have the original tubing it came in.

Thanks in advance.

Re: shipping a barbell

UPS and Fedex both have pages to put in the dimensions and shipping to/from to get a rate quote. I'd just throw it in the tube and tape up both ends really well with shipping tape that has the fibers in it. It's hard to damage a bar in shipping unless something scratches it.

Rates are usually $35-45 because it's oversized, but that's generally what we pay and probably a little lower than the general public's rate because of the volume we do. I'm sure some of the larger companies get even better rates.
