Tight Traps

For some time now my traps have been chronically tight, even if I am taking a break from working out. Lately I have been more consciously keeping my shoulders pulled back because it seems my shoulders are internally rotated a tad bit, but my traps are still tight despite my efforts (though my posture has improved).

Has anyone else dealt with this before? I am kind of lost.

Re: Tight Traps

What you describe is very common. One thing that can happen is that you develop poor recruitment patterns, overworking your upper traps and until you work to break that pattern. If that is the case it is usually a pretty simple fix, but may be a little difficult to describe on the forum. You will need to stand in front of a mirror making sure you are standing with good posture. pull your shoulder blades down and toward your spine. Holding them in that position as long as you can you are going to raise your arm straight out in front of you. You will want to do around 100 reps, or until failure several times a day. Let me know if this helps or makes you worse as it is so hard to figure this stuff out through a forum.

Re: Tight Traps

Thanks for the advice, I think you were right on. I should have been a little more patient and held off a few more days instead of posting, they have not been tight at all lately due to improved posture. Between that and tucking my pelvis in a little more when standing I feel like a different person.
