CLB, Sam B, Annie, L Fisher.. who knows.. just about who steps up the training, has a good week and the workouts are in their favor.
Already announced. Team Rogue Fitness Black.

Rich Froning
Jason Khalipa
Sam Briggs
Julie Foucher

I'm sure there will be many decent teams, with one so far rumored to be Scott Panchik, Ben Smith, Camille + 1 but I don't think anyone is beating Rogue Fitness Black. Not this year. There will be no team that will top that one. I'd bet money on that.

Kind of a farce to be honest.

The team you're referring to is for the online team competition this fall (wfs). This team is not for next year's Games season. Unless the all move to Cookeville, this team is against the rules for the Games season.

That was the team competition I was referring to. I guess he (the guy I quoted) was referring to games, my bad. I don't pay too much attention to teams in the games honestly. Boring as of late. That Sam Dancer DL was outstanding though!

I say, as long as Sam Briggs competes and doesn't get sick or injured, she will dominate the women. Something like this year won't happen again.
I respect Briggs and all, but strength wise she's not in Camille's league AND you say all Briggs has to do is not get injured or sick...she didn't make it to the games this year, because she wasn't rounded enough. Do I want to see Camille trample Briggs, yes i'd love to see that match up, but don't put down Camille's accomplishment because Briggs wasn't there, that's BS, she wasn't there for a reason. To go on and say she (Camille) won't even touch the podium again is really not respecting her skills/competencies.

As for the men's, who knows! So many new faces, if guys like Noah Ohlsen can improve their Oly lifts then I can see them making a run at it, Fraser is a monster and I expect to see him up there. He just needs a little more experience, regardless, it will be exciting! I also liked Will Moorad a lot, I hope to see more of him coming up.
So many new guys at the games this year, and they were not bad, but only a few were on the other level you had to be to really stand out. I agree that I don't see anyone being head and shoulders above anyone else and reigning supreme like Rich did, but who knows someone's training and other things could just all come together, or Rich could take on a protegé!

I think the race will continue to be a lot closer for the men like this year, whereas I think we'l continue to see the women's side being a 3-5 person game.

I agree Foucher is a great athlete and performs well, she definitely has a shot. Val on the other hand I think has to make significant improvements if she is going to win, she's good at a bunch of stuff, but at any 1 thing she is not on the same level as Annie, Julie, Briggs, or Camille. Kara is an odd duck, SUPER strong, swims well but not so great at BW and endurance stuff (besides swimming) so unless she fixes those holes in her game I don't see it happening either.

As things stand the battle for podium from what I see is between:
Julie Foucher (btw before this year I thought her name was pronounced like english people would because she is american, but its pronounced like in french cool!)
Annie T
Sam Briggs
Camille
Michele Letendre (can't stress how much I hope they have different announcers at Canada East regionals next year lol)
Val V as a far outside shot.

On another note someone who trains at my gym and used to compete in olympic weightlifting said they used to train with Mat Fraser in North Bay (Canada) years ago and that he was a total BEAST!!

I do have a controversial point to make, how come Rogue doesn't sponsor any of the top Canadian Athletes? (besides the Beard from the West that is) but they keep picking more and more european athletes, this question is in reference to their super teams.

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Don't forget, the Games qualifying process is going to be different next year (not announced how yet), so that could really throw things off once you get to the games. Could be more CE and Cal guys included, and hopefully Conway and Chan come back healthy.

Val V as a far outside shot.
Foucher is far and away my favorite female athlete ever since I saw in person the 2012 Regionals event 4 (squats and pull-ups) that she absolutely blew away.

I chose Val as my #2 podium spot because she's a fourth grade teacher, and I love to see the success of non-full time CrossFitters in competition. Also, she was on the podium last year in 3rd place. I think she has better than a far outside shot. She's the same age as me, and I also love to see the 30-somethings succeed in competition.

Kara Webb had mixed success this year at the Games. I chose her for #3 in hopes that she'll clean up some weaknesses. I'd love too see an Aussie on the podium. There are some great female competitors coming from Australia in the last few years.

I actually hadn't bothered to check on Val's placing last year, and I agree that there's something about her not doing it full time and being a teacher that makes you want her to do well. I also remarked to my wife that she (Val) was the most conservatively dressed athlete besides a couple of the other women, and we both wondered if it was because she was trying to be a "role model" to her students? or just her style? The outside shot comment was kind of in reference to her skill levels, she's not in the top 5 strength or speed, etc...on the other hand she's consistent.

Being Canadian I can't be anything but happy/proud that a Canadian (Camille) has won a portion of the crossfit games, the fact that she's french Canadian too, is just icing on the cake! and want her to remain there, while the Canadian Men need to bring up there game too!

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

I agree with that about Voboril. Consistency is king in CrossFit.

I like to see non-US women winning the Games (Annie, Sam, Camille). I'd love to see a little more variety on the men's side. I don't think there has been a non-American on the men's podium since Mikko in 2009. I view non-Americans winning as a sign of CrossFit's popularity increasing in places outside the US, and I like that.
