Also, for the record: 5'10" 240, 500-1:30, 1000-3:27.

My PR 500 was after a ME DL day, and the 1000 was a warmup effort that felt so good at the midpoint I sold out the second 500. These are not that recent.

Try to do some tabata rowing. 20 secs full effort/10 secs rest x 8. That worked wonders for me. I went from 1:45 the first time to 1:31 as my personal best within a few weeks. Funny enough, I always end up under 1:35, no matter has 'easy' I take it, just can't seem to get it under 1:30 ... yet.

5'4, 140#-ish, and my PR is 2:10. However, my PR for the 2K is 10:13. I REALLY want 9:50 to meet the Level 1 female standard, but 10:13 almost killed me...

Sorry for the hijack,
I can only post replies in threads, not make my own.
Can someone tell me where the post thread button is?

Rodney,
very bottom left, under all the archived threads of a topic. Not very prominantly placed, and a pretty common problem.

5'7, 180, and my best 500m is 1:30.0.

I'd argue with Eva's $100 CAD comment, but after a 500m row I'm feeling like a Peso. :-(

5'8" or 5'9" depeneding on who is measuring me that day (I seriously have no clue...the Army says one thing my doc says another)

190lbs and my best 500m is 1:34 which I did last week with the setting on 5.

I felt like crappola after after the first 400m I was just hanging on to finish out the last 100m.

5'11" and 86kg (~190lb) Best 500m 1:28.6, 1000m 3:15 and 2000m 6:45.6

But more importantly Sam, 1:41 is a rocking first attempt and with a little coaching or else reading and listening to the technique info round here you may well surprise yourself with how quickly you can make ground on the times posted here.

A search for rowing posts by Chris Wyant about drag factors should bring up a whole pile of gold. Also hit up CrossFitLive and download the podcast on C2 rowing. Lots of good stuff there.

Cheers, kempie
