Re: Stuff I'd like to see in WODs

I wouldn't mind seeing some Yoga in the cooldown. Does that count?

Why not just bench? It's easily scaleable (much more so than the one are push up), and can be used for more time domains.
What about strength imbalance? My right side is way weaker than my left for a bunch of reasons so I think single arm presses are helpful so my left doesn't always bear a disproportionate amount of weight. Unless we're talking about two different things. I thought OP meant single arm dumbbell presses.

@ Jaime
Would love to see some of these elements on the main page, but not expecting it anytime soon. Although they have programmer Kip ups as part of the inverted burpee.
For the time being, I am using these movements in my own training and for the programming at our affiliate.

Meghan,

dumbells will fix that. I believe a "press up" is a british term for push up.

Ben,

The reason I asked is becuase most of those take a fair amount of training and practice. For someone who doesn't need or want to be able to those movements, I don't see the time investment being worthwhile, let alone the fact that most people can't teach them.

Sealfit often programs 15 minute sessions of yoga, meditation, or deep stretching after their WODs. I usually do all three, and I feel amazing afterward.(especially the meditation. Trying to quiet your mind after a grueling workout is tough, but worth it)

Re: Stuff I'd like to see in WODs

I'm a noob, but I'd like to see more outdoor WODs that include uphill, off road hikes (with heavy packs) over rough terrain. With lots of stepping up and perhaps having to throw your pack onto the next ledge before climbing?

and trail running / jumping / bouldering activities. Rural Parkour anyone?

Re: Stuff I'd like to see in WODs

Sandbag work. Huge component of the MilAthlete WODs. Mainly-
-Sandbag get-ups
-Sandbag squat clean to push press
-Sandbag runs
The MA site makes an excellent point: Sandbags are cheap (practically free if you're active duty), easily scalable, and hugely versatile. The hit to your core and stabilizers is ridiculous, and a 20 minute run under a 40lb bag feels like an unweighted 60 minute trail run. Good times.
