I wasn't even going to post this one, but I figure what the hell, it will be a good way to track my progress. Some of the same problems as my snatch. Not getting full extension among other things. The jerk didn't feel right. Need to bump drive and drop. I'm sure you all will have more to say, lol.

I think I am just going to use this as my thread to post video.

I am just getting in gear with doing Nick's foundation program 3x/w and will be dinging around in the garage with a bar a couple of days a week. Maybe I'll even fit a crossfit workout in... you never know.

Feel free to tear this one apart. I think the comments I have received so far have helped.

-Ben

Just thought I'd post a few snatches from today.

It is in apple quicktime format... otherwise the file size was way too big.

feel free to comment.

Cool! Great work.

Something I notice is that you are lifting your heels. You should try to keep them down. And I think you are moving slightly forward when you jump to the receiving/squat stance. If anything, there should be a slight jump backward.

Read the article on the main page regarding the speed of the lift.

That being said, it looks great.

The pull-under for the snatch needs to be much more aggressive and faster. Same with the jerk, show us more speed.

I'd like to see a side angle to see why you end up jumping forward on the snatch.

a note on the C&J, you're starting a little too far back from the bar, bring your shoulders forward a bit so that they are in front of the bar. Other than that - speed, speed, speed

I haven't taken much video lately. Here is one of Jesse on Saturday. Lifting today, so maybe I'll bring the camera.

Thankyou for the comments everyone.

re jesse...not bad at all....i see some really great things there and lots of potential. needs better extension...shrugs her shoulders too soon and looses power and elevation here...needs to get taller and straighter...finishing that pull...while pulling under her elbows need to be more high and outside....she really meets the bar nicely...then rides it down....and that jerk is awesome!!!! this gal has some talent!!!

ben....i thought your snatches all in all were not bad. as pointed out the speed should be more agressive, but your positioning from what i see is not bad at all. 2 points....arms bend too soon, and that is why you are slow...when the arms bend the pwr ends....and 2nd....your face is looking at the ceiling....this can cause the bar to swing out....get the top of that head of yours to the ceiling. lots of good things there ben...keep up the good work.

Just thought I would post these 2 snatches from tuesday. Not my best lifts, but the only ones that made it to video. They show some of the same weaknesses.
Tuesday's workout: Snatches, cleans, OHS, rack jerks, front squats.
What I wish I got on video was the 110 rack jerk. New pr for me.

Coach Burgener, I'm honored to have you critique.

Ben, here's a 7-frame sequence of your lift.
http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/13350/14705.jpg
In frame #1 the bar has just barely come off the ground.
Notice the difference in back angle between frames #1, #2, and #4. That's an early hip rise.
By frame #7 the bar is clearly doomed to go forward; you're on your toes and the bar is forward of the thighs. It's my opinion this can be seen as early as frame #5. I believe it's all due to the early hip rise in the first frames.
