Max Height Box Jumps... Lesson learned

Did something kind of stupid today. We were going for max height on box jumps. Got 52" then put a 10lb bumper on top, went for the next jump, feet hit it and it slipped out from under neath. I basically went head over heels and nailed my head on the floor. Just a word of advice..... if you're going to do high box jumps dont put a small plate on top and if possible get some people to stand on your sides and behind you to catch you if you fall.

Silly me, I'm lucky this wasn't much much worse.

Thanks man... Would trade it instantly to make this dang headache go away. It's definitely better I've had to take the last couple days off just to be safe.

Buy a crash mat. We always jump off from it when we do max height box jump. And right on about using the biggest plate on top. We always have a 45 lb on the top of the stack, so it come off and goes back on each time we go up in height.

PS you edged me by 2 inches on that jump. Nice work.

Re: Max Height Box Jumps... Lesson learned

Someone suggested once to me to string a jump rope (unanchored) across boxes (or something else stackable) at the height you desire and jump over that. All it does is collapse if you miss. It might not be a "true" box jump but I've seen what happened to you firsthand and it's scary, or just scraping the shins sucks enough. You can also get more height just because there's no hesitation/fear.

If you hit your head and still have a headache hours after you fell, you should get checked out. I'd bet you have a concussion.

Re: Max Height Box Jumps... Lesson learned

Yeah... was still having head aches/pain last night so I went to the ER. Got a CT Scan and luckily there was no leakage (especially considering I've had a fractured skull before) and the Doc determined I had a concussion. Was foolish of me not to get checked out immediately after but luckily someone was watching out for me.

Might not be a bad idea to have one of those 8" thick gymnastic mats behind it. An old futon would do the trick sorta.
