Bar Sleeve too big for Bumpers

I just got a set of Troy VTX bumpers and one side of my barbell doesn't fit a few of the plates. I got this barbell for $35 at a thrift store, but surprisingly it actually didn't seem like a bad barbell at first. Decent spin on the sleeves, good condition, handled pretty well in the few workouts I've had just doing cleans & snatches. It's a little fat (using it mainly for olympic lifts) but otherwise it's decent enough for now, besides this sleeve issue.

Anyway, it's about all I have to work with until I can get a good bar later this year, unless I get super lucky on craigslist. I'm wondering if it would be possible to grind down this one sleeve (any guidance on how to get this done would be helpful), or replace the one sleeve.

Any suggestions, besides getting a new bar?

Bolt, as I discovered last night after taking the end cap off.

Try getting sleeves from broken/bent bars. It may take a while for the perfect sleve.

Or get a better bar=lots of time, money and frustration saved in the long run.

Re: Bar Sleeve too big for Bumpers

I plan on getting the Rogue Bar around Christmas time, maybe earlier. I just can't see spending $100 to get a cheap Troy (cheapest option I've found) in the meantime, but I really don't want to wait 4 months to get started on an Olympic routine.

This isn't an uncommon problem. Sometimes plates from one manufacturer don't quite fit bars from another. For example, we have a bunch of 5 pound metal Ivanko plates at our gym that won't fit on most of our 15kg York bars; no problems with the 20 kg bars mind you, just the 15's.

I have a set of Ivanko 35's and a set of CAP 10's that won't fit on my Body Solid plate-loaded lat machine. It's just something you learn to deal with, especially with cheaper equipment.
