Swiss Ball GHD
Does anyone know the name of or where you can get this type of swiss ball ghd? Michigan Football just changed their weight room to do more sport specific training and this is one of many pieces of equipment that was part of a 1 million dollar re-build.
http://cmsimg.detnews.com/apps/pbcsi...W=290&MaxH=290 Barwis and his staff stress: • Olympic movements -- clean-and-jerk and the snatch weight lifting (lifting a barbell from the floor to locked arms overhead in a smooth movement). These moves help develop power, speed and strength and require accelerating a weight from a point below the hips to above. A strong core is critical. • Plyometrics -- This type of training involves toughening tissues and training nerve cells to make muscles contract as long as possible in the shortest amount of time. It's all about quick, explosive movement. Plyometrics are used to increase the speed of muscular contractions, with the intention of increasing vertical jump or speed of a punch or throw. • Speed training -- This involves a considerable amount of sprinting and changing direction, both of which are required in football. It helps develop a strong core, which stabilizes the body and helps with powerful leg and arm action. All he preaches is based on bioenergetics, a field of biochemistry. "Everything we do is applied from sciences," he said. "If it's not scientifically sound, I won't use it." |

Re: Swiss Ball GHD
This looks cool. For a while I was thinking about how one could create a rig to convert their ball into a more proper GHD, since a ball would take up less space and cost less. This, on the other hand, looks like it takes up more space and costs more money than a regular GHD, though.

Re: Swiss Ball GHD
"man parts" not an issue if you get get rollers/pads with a split.
See, there are 2 rollers - man parts are free! Also, I would think that whether you are squashing your junk into a foam pad/roller or a swiss ball it would be uncomfortable either way... Yep, just tried it...not so nice...keep it on the quads! |

Re: Swiss Ball GHD
I believe Sorinex makes this product. I saw it on a track and field strength training video recently. Highly touted by Jud Logan, coach of Ashland University/ 4x Olympic Hammer thrower.

Re: Swiss Ball GHD
Well, for a cheap multi-use solution, just put one of those wooden dowels on the wall like people and ballet/dancing classes use for stretching, anchor your feet under that. I believe there was something on making this a while back... let me check my bookmarks...
Aha! http://board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=14064&page=1 (wfs) That, but with a swiss ball instead of the wooden tower. I don't know if the ball is high enough off the floor by itself, but you could easily make a little stand for it (e.g., a topless, bottomless box the ball can sit on, routed on the top edge so it won't pop/stress the ball). |

Re: Swiss Ball GHD
I've tried something like that, well I had my wife sit on the coffee table to anchor it, and the ball isn't high enough on its own. You def need to elevate it, but mounting the foot hold on the wall would make it simpler.
