When my brother and I got together over the holidays he was advocating the use of a Swiss ball, claiming that it worked stabilizer muscles and "muscle chains" in ways that some traditional weightlifting exercises couldn't. Although I smiled and nodded politely, I have some doubts. I guess my main reservation is that I have not heard of a single Olympic lifter using a Swiss ball to increase his or her strength/power. So what's the scoop? Is there any validity to this new (well, new to me anyway) piece of equipment or is it just another popular fad?
